Stuff I’m Spinning

1) The new Coldplay. It’s outstanding.

2) Clinic — Internal Wrangler. I just bought the new Clinic yesterday, but have yet to give it a listen. Clinic is supposedly Thom Yorke’s favorite band. I’m not sure if that’s a reason to buy them or a reason to avoid them. Don’t avoid them. It’s good stuff. Unlike anything I’ve heard on the market right now.

3) The Mooney Suzuki — Electric Sweat. Detroit rock in the White Stripes/Stooges vein – perhaps with a bit more Motown R&B influence. Fun, pretenseless rock n’ roll.

4) Richard Ashcroft — Alone With Everybody. Rock’s Shaman. Alone is his first solo album after breaking up The Verve, released a couple of years ago. This is perfect music for the morning commute. Stuff to wake your brain.

5) Badfinger — Best of Badfinger. Picked this up after hearing Chris Robinson’s inspired, live, acoustic version of “Day After Day.” How great was this band? Why don’t they get more “great influence” credit?

6) Miles Davis — Birth of the Cool. What I’m listening to right now. It’s raining. It’s Saturday afternoon. It’s cool. Is there a better time for Miles?

Clinic is great, I drove up to Philly to see them in April and caught them at 930 a month or two ago. they don’t sound like Radiohead, in fact they don’t sound like much of anything out there. So I invoke the “Velvet Underground Rule” which is when you don’t know what a band sounds like they sounds like Velvet Underground.
