STUPID PROTESTER UPDATE I

After attending a ripping Black Rebel Motorcycle Club/Spiritualized show at D.C.’s deliciously quaint 9:30 Club last night, I took a quick drive around the city. My report? It’s trashed. Everywhere where protesters gathered to decry the environmental desecration wrought by free trade and devilish corporate greed, they left looking like a landfill. Half-eaten lunches, bottles, cans, leaflets, newspapers — everywhere there where mass protests there was mass litter and anti-globalist pollution. We got a good rain last night, too, which matted the pro-environment fliers to sidewalks. Mini-rivulets branched off from gutter and storm sewer streams, carrying half-eaten hot dog (tofu?) buns, flier ink, cigarette butts and who knows what other pro-green, anti-industry toxins into pools of standing water, potholes and drain ditches. The lawns around the Washington Monument were more white with discarded literature than green. Perhaps Monday’s Earth Day protesters will clean it up.
