Mickey Kaus dissects Joshua Green’s

Mickey Kaus dissects Joshua Green’s Washington Monthly piece on presidential polling. Kaus’s analysis is spot-on. The difference between Clinton and Bush: Clinton used polls to tell him what his principles were. Bush uses polls to articulate his principles in a way that’s palatable to the public. Huge difference.

It also says quite a bit about both men beyond how they use poll results.

Of course, Bush grows more Clintonesque each day he’s in office — as recent decisions on steel tariffs, lumber tariffs and foreign aid attest. All are very un-Bush-like policies. I’m hoping he has some surprises in store. Perhaps he’s greasing the skids for something big?
